The Imperial Throne

The state room, as it was known at that time, was themost important room in the palace. Here the emperor received, in formal gatherings, distinguished visitors and diplomats. The throne, the mirrors and the cabinets came from the former 'throne room' in the São Critóvão Palace. Because the Imperial Palace in Petrópolis was a summer home and a place to rest, hence it did not possess a throne room. On each side of thee throne can be seen two large sévres porcelain urns, painted with images of the four seasons, a present from french president Adolphe Thiers to the brazilian emperor. On the cabinets with the tall mirrors bearing the arms of the empire can be found sévres porcelain vases bearing the image of d. Pedro II and of d. Teresa Cristina.
